You Know You’re Capable of More. Is Your Career Reflecting It?

Take the Career Positioning Index™ to discover what may be holding your career back and where to focus next.

About Her Career Lab

Your Experience Has Value. Let’s Make It Visible.

Her Career Lab was created for ambitious women who know they are capable of more but, do not always see that capability reflected in their title, compensation, visibility, or opportunities.

Because one of the most important lessons I have learned from working in recruiting is this:

Being qualified is not the same as being positioned.

You can have the experience.

You can have the skills.

You can be the person everyone depends on.

You can consistently deliver.

And still find yourself overlooked, underpaid, uncertain about your next move, or struggling to explain exactly why your experience makes you valuable.

That gap is what led me to create Her Career Lab.

Meet Michelle

I’m the founder of Her Career Lab and a recruiter who has spent years on the other side of the hiring table.

Throughout my career, I’ve reviewed résumés, partnered with hiring leaders, listened to interview answers, and watched talented professionals try to explain what they bring to the table.

And I kept noticing the same thing:

Some of the most capable people had the hardest time communicating why they were valuable.

They knew how to work hard, be dependable and how to take on more. Still, they had never been taught how to clearly articulate their impact, differentiate their experience, or strategically position themselves for what came next.

That stayed with me.

Because career advancement is not only about having value. It’s about making that value easier for the right people to see, understand, remember, and advocate for.

That’s why I created Her Career Lab.

Not to give women more generic advice about résumés, networking, or “believing in yourself,” but to help them understand the professional value they’ve already built—and learn how to position it for greater visibility, opportunity, compensation, and advancement.

You don’t need to become someone else.

You need to make the value you already have easier to see.

Your Experience Has Value. Let’s Make It Visible.

You Don’t Need to Reinvent Yourself.

You’ve already built experience, solved problems, taken on more, and proven that you can deliver. The challenge is making sure that value is actually recognized.

At Her Career Lab, we call what you’ve built Career Capital™: your skills, accomplishments, expertise, judgment, relationships, and reputation.

Hard work creates value. Strategic positioning helps that value become visible, understood, and rewarded.

You don’t need to become louder or more performative. You need the right people to understand what you do well, the impact you create, and what you’re ready for next.

That’s the version I’d choose because it leads with her lived experience first, then introduces the HCL philosophy.

The Career Positioning Gap™

There is often a gap between: The value you actually create and The value decision-makers perceive. We call this:

The Positioning Gap™

Closing that gap does not mean exaggerating your experience. It does not mean becoming performative. And it does not mean pretending to be someone you are not. It means learning how to clearly connect:

Your experience

Your expertise

Your accomplishments

Your differentiation

Your impact

Your next opportunity

The HCL Career Positioning Framework™

Our work is built around a simple process:

Discover

Identify the Career Capital™ you have already built.

Define

Clarify your professional direction and what you want to be known for.

Differentiate

Understand what makes your experience and value distinctive.

Demonstrate

Build visible evidence of your professional impact.

Define

Turn your positioning into greater opportunity, compensation, advancement, leadership, or mobility.

DISCOVER → DEFINE → DIFFERENTIATE → DEMONSTRATE → DEPLOY

Because positioning only matters if you eventually put it to work.

What I want women to know about career advancement

You don’t have to wait until you feel completely ready, collect another credential, or become someone else to move forward.

Your current title or salary does not define your future value.

You can learn to understand your value, communicate it clearly, make your impact visible, and pursue opportunities more strategically.

Career advancement doesn’t have to depend on someone eventually noticing you.

You can build the positioning and leverage to take a more active role in what comes next.

Why Her Career Lab Is Different

Her Career Lab combines recruiter insight, career positioning strategy, and practical implementation.

It’s built from years of seeing how candidates are evaluated, how professional value is communicated, and where talented people get overlooked.

My role isn’t to tell you who to become. It’s to help you recognize the value you’ve already built and position it strategically for where you want to go next.

Her Career Lab Is for the Woman Who’s Thinking:

“I know I’m capable of more. So why doesn’t my career reflect it?”

You’ve put in the work. You have experience. You’ve proven yourself.

And yet, you may be wondering why your title, pay, visibility, or opportunities haven’t caught up.

Maybe you’re ready for leadership, considering a pivot, or simply tired of believing that working harder will eventually be enough.

You’re not starting over and you’re not starting from nothing.

You already have Career Capital™.

Now it’s time to make it visible, communicate it with confidence, and position it for what comes next.
